Timber is a natural material, and like all things from nature, it changes with its environment. As timber dries after milling, it naturally loses moisture and shrinks slightly – especially across the grain. This is a completely normal process known as seasonal movement. Because of this, we advertise our timber products in nominal sizes – the rough-sawn dimensions before drying and finishing. It's our way of setting the right expectations, so you get the quality and performance you expect, even as the timber settles into its final form.
